The making of The Bar Boy
(the thing, not the human)
It all began with some experience, then an idea, and finally, this little friendly fella ⬆
But it’s just a logo, right? Well, yeah but no. Just like the Bar Boy experience, the logo was designed with great little details in mind.
The style of the logo is based on a 1920s design movement, ‘rubber hose’ (think ‘Looney Tunes’) which is a nod to the owner’s ‘old soul’ yet cheeky nature. The glass is a ‘tumbler’ rather than a ‘martini glass’ to represent our dedication to providing great non-alcoholic drink options. The tea towel represents quality service and our ‘here to help’ attitude.
And the animation that you see above is just something a little cheeky, different (and a touch ‘OTT’) cos that’s our vibe in a nutshell 🥜
The boy behind the bar, literally 🙋♂️
The boy behind the bar, literally 🙋♂️
Hey there, I’m Josh! The creator and proud owner of The Bar Boy! 👋
For the last 8 years, I’ve been lucky to be doing what I love in the weddings and events space. And throughout that time, after meeting lots of different people and seeing lots of different types of events, my passion for good ol fashioned ‘how can we help make your day truly incredible’ has grown.
Which is kind of a full circle back to where it all began…
My first ever job was at a busy RSL in country NSW and it was there that I learned how much the simple act of helping someone (beyond just pouring them a drink) can, in a small yet significant way, brighten their day! But I also developed a love for the ‘fast pace’ of hospitality and an appreciation for damn good customer service, which is a concept I’ve been curious about ever since.
Fast forward 14 years, and after experiencing many different weddings and events, I’ve noticed that they can sometimes feel like ‘just another event’.
So, The Bar Boy is my way of bringing a new vibe to weddings and events, by making sure my patrons and their guests feel extra spesh, and that their event is as awesome and as unique as them! 🥳
Building the bar 🔨
Building the bar 🔨
The Bar Boy began with a brainstorm on a whiteboard, and a well-timed trip from over east…
In early 2024, I was chatting with Dad about my idea, and being the generous people pleaser that he is (looks aren’t the only thing I get from the old fella) he offered to help me build a bar during the upcoming family holiday.
And so, after just a few trips to Bunnings and a couple of late nights, we produced ‘Big Richard’, the crown jewel of The Bar Boy. And of course, I’ve been tinkering with it ever since to make sure it is as practical, and as fun to use as possible.
And thanks to the builder of 47 years showing me a thing or two, we’ve since welcomed his brother ‘Little Richard’ into The Bar Boy family.
